Vastu Shastra Guidelines for Idol Placement

Where you position a spiritual icon is just as critical as the craftsmanship of the icon itself. Under the principles of Vastu Shastra, the ancient Indian system of architecture and spatial geometry, placing idols in specific directions can harmonize planetary energy flow and promote household prosperity.

1. The Northeast Direction (Ishan Kona)

The Northeast is considered the corner of water and supreme divinity. It is the most auspicious direction for placing a pooja mandir or a meditating Buddha statue. Ensure the statue faces either East or West. This placement maximizes the reception of morning sun rays, filling the house with high-vibrational energy.

2. The Main Entrance Alignment

To safeguard your household from negative energy, Vastu experts suggest placing an Abhaya Mudra Buddha or a Ganesha idol right above the main entrance door, facing outwards. For Ganesha idols, it is critical to ensure his trunk is curved to his left, symbolizing domestic peace and soft, incoming prosperity.

3. Sacred Standing Lamps (Nilavilakku)

Traditional brass standing lamps should ideally be placed in the East or Northeast. When lighting the lamp, ensure one wick points directly East to bring health and success, and another points West to invite material abundance. Avoid pointing wicks towards the South.
